Scholarship Search
February 21st, 2008There are lots of places to search for scholarships online. We recommend ScholarshipExperts.com. However, it’s sage advice to use as many quality services as you can find. Even using Google to look for scholarship opportunities can be a very good resource. We also maintain a pretty extensive list of college scholarship search services on our scholarship searches page.
Avoid scams. Remember, with scholarships as with many offers, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Most important, don’t pay a fee to apply for a scholarship. Also, be aware that most free scholarship search services use advertising to pay for the services they provide you. Use common sense when responding to offers that are presented to you in the registration process as well as email. Most sites try to offer relevant promotions like opportunities to study online or places where you can look for student loans. However, some sites sell your personal informaton to third parties (opt-in with care) and you may get email and postal mail that you really don’t want. The good news is that most “real” spam doesn’t come from companiens in the US so opting out of these offers is usually pretty easy.
Overall, it’s what we’ve come to expect online. We opt-in to sites we trust, we take exaggerated claims with a grain of salt and, if we’re lucky, we find a great resource that helps us pay our tuition.
